The Abandoned Deck is an unlockable Deck in Balatro. This deck is unlocked by winning a run with the Green Deck on any stake.

Starting Contents[]

The Abandoned Deck contains cards numbered 2 through 10 and aces of the four suits, but is missing all Face Cards (Kings, Queens and Jacks). This brings its total card count down to 40 instead of the normal 52, the lowest starting card count out of any deck in the game.

Synergies[]

This Deck's smaller size leads to a much higher rate of drawing Pairs, Straights and Three of a Kind, even in the early game.

The lack of face cards in the Abandoned Deck means that the average chip value of a hand is significantly lower than that of any other 52 card deck. If you can overcome this early weakness of the deck, you are significantly better off for late game than the other starting decks.

Note: The absence of face cards wouldn't make a straight between an Ace card and cards numbered 10, 9, 8, and 7 possible.

Jokers[]

  • Avoid Jokers that boosts face cards unless you have Pareidolia.
  • Ride the Bus, especially if found early on, is a free source of infinite scaling.
  • Cards that boost specific ranks such as Hack and Fibonacci are much easier to play around due to this Deck's smaller size. Other Jokers like this are Odd Todd, Even Steven, and Scholar.
  • Erosion's Mult bonus applies to every card below 40 in your deck rather than 52, making it much harder to use effectively without running out of cards during a Blind.
  • Blue Joker applies only 64 chips on the first hand of the round, and the returns only diminish further, making this joker hard to use effectively without adding tons of cards to your deck.
  • Due to a small deck size, Trading Card is much more difficult to use effectively.
  • The Idol has fewer options to choose from, making it more useful without editing your deck.

Trivia[]

  • The Abandoned Deck is the only starting deck to not initially contain 52 cards, making it the smallest deck in the game.
