Brainstorm is a rare joker that copies the effect of the leftmost Joker you have. Unlike Blueprint, moving Brainstorm around will not change what it copies, only when it does so. To change the Joker that is being copied, a different Joker will need to be moved to the leftmost position. There are some jokers that cannot be copied, and putting Brainstorm itself in the leftmost position will cause it to do nothing. Brainstorm's compatibility with other Jokers can be seen in its tooltip.
In general, Brainstorm will not copy the following effects:
- Debuffed Jokers
- Card Edition effects
- Sticker effects
- Destruction
- Joker scaling (only the final result is copied)
- End-of-round money earning effects
- Changes to hands, discards, hand size or hand typing (except for Burglar, which triggers after the blind starts)
See Incompatible Jokers for a full list.
Synergies[]
Decks[]
Works well with any deck. Brainstorm is best used to copy a card that adds multiplier or chips. Getting a second Brainstorm through the Ankh Spectral card, the Invisible Joker, or Showman will allow you to copy the same card multiple times.
Poker Hands[]
This joker does not directly synergize with any hand.
Jokers[]
Due to the different way it copies a card, Brainstorm will always be in Blueprint's shadow- but not by much. The main scenario in which that Brainstorm is worse is that Mult Mult jokers (such as Cavendish or The Trio) must be placed all the way to the left to be copied by Brainstorm, meaning you can't multiply the mult from scaling jokers such as Supernova twice. For example, Supernova + Blueprint + The Trio will score more than Supernova + Brainstorm + The Trio. However, A Polychrome Brainstorm on the rightmost side can copy a Joker while still allowing the full benefit of its edition effect, though Brainstorm itself can't copy edition effects. Some notable targets for copying include Bull/ Bootstraps, Jokers which make money mid-round such as Mail-In Rebate, retrigger Jokers such as Dusk, scaling jokers like Erosion, and effects which multiply your mult before other jokers are scored, such as Baron, Photograph or Bloodstone.
See Blueprint for more general copying strategies.

Trivia[]
- When copying chance-based Jokers like Space Joker, the chance is rolled independently for each copy of that joker. This means if one Joker triggers, the copies aren't guaranteed to trigger at the same time.
- It is impossible to copy Brainstorm with another Brainstorm, unlike Blueprint.
- The card art depicts a "back of the napkin" sketch, a rough calculation or idea quickly sketched out during a conversation at a bar or restaurant, which could be seen as the conception of the Joker being copied. This also reflects its limitations compared to the more versatile Blueprint, which depicts a more deliberate and detailed technical drawing.
- This is the only Joker that has a 90 degree corner (top left) in its card art, as all other jokers have a rounded radius in all their corners.
