Chips are a unit value in Balatro that is multiplied by Mult to produce your final score.
The amount of chips is primarily dependent on both the ranks of the cards scored and the poker hand played. Easier hands provide fewer base chips, and more difficult hand provide more.
Aces provide 11 Chips, all Face Cards provide 10 Chips, and all numbered cards provide chips equal to their value unless modified.
