Troubadour provides +2 hand size, at the cost of -1 Hand per round.
Synergies[]
Decks[]
- Blue Deck works best with Troubadour thanks to its +1 hand per round bonus, offsetting the penalty of this Joker. This effectively transforms the Blue Deck into a more flexible Painted Deck.
- Black Deck should not be used with Troubadour as its -1 hand per round penalty means players will only have 2 hands to beat each blind.
Poker Hands[]
Any strong 5 card hands can benefit from Troubadour, as the increased hand size means higher chance to draw needed cards to form the hand. Troubadour can also be good in High-card builds which rely on cards being in hand to score, such as with Baron or Steel cards.
Jokers[]
- Mime: More cards in hand means more cards for Mime to retrigger.
Blinds[]
- If
Crimson Heart disables Troubadour, the hand size will return to normal but current hand will stay intact until the next discard (ex: 10/8). By quitting to Main Menu and returning, the hand size actually permanently increases (ex: 10/10), giving players a permanent hand size upgrade.
Trivia[]
- Troubadours cannot reduce hand per round below 1. So when it's equipped against Golden Needle (Challenge) or The Needle blind, it effectively provides +2 hand size without penalty, as players always start with 1 hand per round.
- A troubadour was a "composer and performer of a Old Occitan lyric poetry during the High Middle Ages", primarily in Southern France. They were known for their songs and poems, often focused on the theme of courtly love. The term "troubadour" is etymologically masculine, and female poets of this style were often referred to as trobairitz.
